Safe for dorm

Trying to figure out what to but my DD so she can secure valuables (cash; Rx; passport) in her dorm. Not like she doesn’t trust her roommate (who she has never met) but I’ve heard kids don’t lock doors and sometimes there are visitors.

Any suggestions? I’ve seen ones that you can secure to furniture, but I can’t figure out what would be the best place to do that so it’s accessible but not right out in the open.

Is your kid attending school overseas? Why bring a passport? Are the meds considered controlled substances? Why would she need a lot of cash?

Get this. We got it for our son. To PP, there might be times when your kid is away for the weekend and wants to lock up their laptop. Also, any prescription meds and important papers should go in there.

This is what you’re looking for:
ECR4Kids Lock and Roll Personal Safe, Travel Lockbox, Grey

Why not? Plenty of kids travel overseas for school breaks.

We got something similar.

Highly recommend after theft in my daughters dorm.

In the fall? Unless they are going really far away and won’t be home before the trip I would not take the passport.

This attaches to leg of bed frame. Sure, someone with the right tool can cut through it, but few would bother. It’s a deterrent. Perfect size for everything and heavy. My son uses it to move in and out. Holds laptop, power cords, chargers, wireless speaker, documents, and everything for his desk. He never bothered after first semester to vault it. Dorm door closes and locks automatically. Apartment now in Junior year with 5 friends and they’ve become lax.

Fun fact - these are banned at BYU and are grounds for expulsion.

Why would anyone send their child to school at such a police state-type place?

Just get a lockable l fire document box or bag. FYI, most students are not locking up medications.

Here is the link to BYU housing and its rules. Where does it say that an under bed locker is prohibited?

Not OP but maybe needs to flee the country unexpectedly and has ADHD meds.

My kid got this, which hung discretely in the closet.

You don't know who will be in their room, if the roommate will lock the door, etc.

It was during checkin with the last few years for my nephew.

Dont expect all of the Mormon rules to be written down and/or available to the public. If you are not familiar with BYU, then starting googling about the Honor Code office. They are given a wide discretion discipline students for even the “appearance of evil”.

The BYU Idaho Honor Code office is the KGB.

Capri pants for women are banned as one example.
