Exterior house painting cost

Anonymous
We have been quoted 14k for a 5000 sqf home, including power washing and painting all exterior surface with the exception of shutters (which will be removed) and windows. Includes front door, garage door, and staining wood deck floor and steps. Does it sound reasonable? We are in MoCo.

Wow, sounds like a great deal to me

I just paid a little over 9 k for just the scraping and painting of my porch (granted it's large and old). Three estimates for my entire white Victorian came in near $49,000...it's the scraping and prep and the shutters especially require much time and effort. So if they can do a good job then yes it's a good price.

Poster above, I should add that they also painted and put up a new custom door.

I wondered the same...op I would do your research and familiarize yourself with their work/obtain references if you have not already

That's an insane deal. I was quoted 30k for a 4000 sq foot house last year.

What is your exterior material e.g brick or siding and are they painting that? Is they are this is ok if not it's too expensive.

OP. Siding. Yes, they are painting the siding, soffits, porch pillars, metal railing and staining garage door, front door, and deck.

It all depends. We had our wood trim around all of our windows (have 42) repainted at least 8 years ago maybe 9, lost track.

The first guy we started with didn't want a crazy amount (a few thousand I think it was) but he started painting with very little actual prep. When we asked him to clean, and sand the areas first, he balked. We fortunately hadn't signed a contract with him so we parted ways with him after he refused. The area he had started near our garage peeled within 6 months.

We then got from a referral at our local paint store who gave us 3 recs. The first guy who charges the least must have heard through the grapevine what had happened with the first company so he cancelled on us but we didn't care b/c if that's what spooked him we knew he might also be a shoddy painter. The second company asked for $14K but the paint job has held up. The third was really crazy expensive (specialize in historic restorations) so we went with the 2nd company.

That seems reasonable. It’s not a lot of materials. Two weeks of labor shouldn’t cost more than many people make in a whole year.
