So after reading all the articles at the beginning of the year I really strive to prepare/ serve a wide variety of non-neat ingredients.
Personally, I feel better and family also seem to be more regular. Just listened to the online Dr Gundry presentation- and was glad to see that some of our regular snacks are good to promote healthy gut: asparagus, onions, pistachios, walnuts. Anyone else find foods that are beneficial? |
Hard to tell if any of the green powders work, but AG1 has me feeling pretty good. It is expensive though. |
I think it varies person to person. My understanding is to go for as much variety as possible and eat lots of fruit and veg. I make sure to eat a fruit or vegetable at every meal and snack. I also aim for 30 different plants per week. So for example, since Sunday, I’ve had tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, cucumbers, onions, garlic, peaches, strawberries, raspberries, lettuce, fava beans, corn, rice, oats, wheat, and probably a few more that I’m missing. |
I used AG1 for 8 months, and while I actually enjoyed the taste I saw zero improvement or difference in my gut health, or anything else for that matter - except my bank account I guess. it's $$$$. I was sad to cancel my subscription because I was really hoping I would see an improvement especially where my gut is concerned. |
OP again- I wish I could get my hands on one if the articles again that said to aim for something like 20 or 30 different plant items per day! Even herbs and seeds counted, so I toss a few in when I think of it.
Will check out AG1 Cabbage and Kimchi are great- I hesitate to buy grocery store kimchi though, feel like a legit Korea restaurant source is better. Also, I avoid artificial sweeteners and processed food. |
I think any fermented or picked food is good. There was an article I saw saying beer and red wine are also very good for gut health if you don’t have more than a glass a day. (Certain types of beer were better but now I can’t remember.). I pickle cucumber to snack on. I think grocery store kimchi is probably fine … it’s pickled so it’s preserved naturally. |
Yogurt and berries, every am. I also eat a lot of fermented/pickled things. |
Yoghurt every day, either for breakfast or lunch. |
How would you assess an improvement in gut health? I think mine is fine but…how would you know? |
A healthy gut results in regular, easy (non strained) bowel movements. Body more efficiently removes toxins, do body feels good, belly is more comfortable and not bloated. Weight stabilizes or decreases, depending on other life choices. |
+1. This is ridiculous. Eat plant foods and get enough fiber. |
In what way? |
chia
kale oatmeal magnesium and a ton of water |
Same way as you. You said you think yours is "fine", so you're essentially claiming to "know" your own gut health too. I've had this gut for 57 years, we've been through a lot together. I know when she's happy, and I know when she's upset. Not sure how else you want me to answer this question. AG1 did nothing for me, period. But that is me, maybe you're different. |
This is a little woo woo/hocus pocus.
All you need to do is stay away from red meat, processed meats, ultra processed foods, alcohol. Then make sure you eat a lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. |
