I'm set for an egg retrieval but I want to reschedule. I'm 10 pounds heavier than I was when we started this process. 5'5 235lbs and while I'm under the 42bmi requirement it's really not by much.
I have PCOS and just been really stressed. Not making excuses but I now have some time off work to focus on myself and I feel like when I go in for labs my Dr will be disappointed with my weight and I should just push it back until I'm closer to 200 lbs. 36 and my partner has a male infertility diagnosis. My AMH is fine, thanks to PCOS. My Dr isn't worried about timing but now I'm freaking out |

My RE said that weight is more of an issue for pregnancy, not the actual IVF process.
At 36, I'd do it sooner than later. But confirm with your RE. |
| If they'll do it go through with it. They told me I had to be below 40 bmi, not 42, for anesthesia reasons. |
| I would just do it. I’m a big person and when I was pregnant I actually lost weight. |
| Thanks all. Chatting w th clinic this week. I might try for an anesthesia consult. If they will let me I'll do it and maybe just wait for the transfer |
That is a lot of pressure to put on yourself—particularly if you have PCOS. You want to lose 35lbs? |
| Fwiw, Dr. Schoolcraft at CCRM told me not to attempt to lose weight while in a cycle. And since I was late 30s and time was of the essence, I didn't. |
Ideally but I know it won't happen soon. I guess I was hoping to even get to 215 before retrieval. Technically I'm under the BMI requirement but not by much. I'll ask for an anesthesia consult and see if they will move forward. I met my Dr when I was around 225 and she wasn't worried about egg quality or amount of eggs....sigh. It just feels hard |
| Please just be kind to yourself through this process and don't stress about weight. Focus on mental and physical health e.g., by taking walks when it's not too hot. I'd go through with the retrieval. You don't have to transfer right away, you can do the retrieval and transfer a frozen embryo later. -PCOSer with two kids via FET. |
| Have you tried to lose weight? I did. 6 months, daily gym, eating right. I lost 0 pounds. PCOS sucks. I wouldn't bother until you have body autonomy again e.g. post child birth and breast feeding. |
| Don’t waste a cycle because of an arbitrary number. Of course you’d gain weight while on the injections. If you’ve grown extra eggs now is the time to retrieve them! There will never be a perfect time but you may experience low ovarian reserve the longer you wait. |
| Have you discussed GLP-1 medications like Ozempic? I know a few friends that went on it for 3 months and lost the 10-30lbs quick to move forward with IVF. I'm on it right now for PCOS it was covered by insurance. Its not a miracle drug but could help get that boost you lose those lbs you need for the dr to move forward in a short amount of time. |

Don't delay because of your weight - I get that it's a whole loaded mental/emotional/physical thing (BTDT), but you don't know how long your fertility journey is going to take or what issues you might face and you need to plan time for that. Not saying you'll love being pregnant while fat, or that it will be easy to lose the weight postpartum, but you're working against time here and don't know what unforeseen obstacles might arise. If you're ready, and doctors say it's fine, do it.
- Delayed getting pregnant to lose weight, didn't, ran into fertility issues, went down RE path, had a miscarriage along the way, ultimately ended up with twins (yay!) - but absolutely do not delay on step 1 of a journey you don't know the path of yet. |

Frankly? You won't lose the weight without significant interventions. I also have PCOS and worked out every every day and dieted for 6 months. Lost 5 lbs.
Given your age you should not wait even 6 months. |
Didn't they require you were off the drug for 3 months before IVF? |
