Part-time care for after school transportation

Where would I start trying to look for somebody like this? I need somebody to take my kids to sports or other activities or twice a week.

Thoughts?

Yes you and thousands of other parents in the DMV
It is very difficult to find.

You will need to offer part time hours - min 20 hrs per week and pay a little more than a regular hourly rate

Or pay a lot more for the two afternoons you need.

Another thought - a friends nanny who might be willing to take your kids if they are going to the same activity as their charges. You could agree on an hourly rate.

I think you should be able to find someone if you post on the nanny forums, it’s not common but there are Nannies/sitters who are willing to drive kids to activities. The rate is probably going to be higher to account for gas, and to also make their time worthwhile. You could for example agree to pay $50 per day. Age of kids, and other details may need to be taken into account too.

Please start from here. Not saying you need to give the address, but what about NWDC, T/Th, 3-5pm?

We have a HS sitter that does this twice a week for us. We found her through the lifeguards at our pool.

The challenge isn't finding someone willing to drive the kids, the challenge is finding someone who is willing to work so few hours.
$50/day isn't worth it to the vast majority of people.

I am actually looking for a nanny/sitter/person who's willing to drive my kids around to after school activities. I agree $50/day will definitely not cut it for many - but what is a reasonable compensation for two kids, per week that would make it worthwhile for the person? I am thinking about offering $35/hour, guaranteed 16 hours per week ($560) whether we use her or not. Opinions?

I think the issue isn't actually going to be the rate - it's the fact that people who need money typically have other responsibilities driving that need, i.e., kids. So they aren't available OR reliable.

What you want to find, and this is the unicorn, is a college sitter who is free in the afternoons for a few hours. If you pay $25/hour cash to that person, you can find someone, but you have to remember it's not reliable. They call off a lot - exam stressing them out, party, vacation, etc. - and we were pretty up front this is OK when we used them.

When my kids are a bit older/have more activities, we'll need to find a FT nanny/house manager type deal. Hoping our current nanny is OK with that type of arrangement.

That would be a share. Rules for kids need to be the same, it needs to be negotiated with both nanny and the family, and there needs to be a discussion about mileage reimbursement (her vehicle) or gas/oil change (their vehicle).

Even if you only need 2 hours per day, $25/hour is not enough for this unless it's a high school student.

20 hour/week, 4 hour/day minimum. At $140/day minimum, then it's more reasonable and worth the commute.

You and thousands and thousands of other parents. I know a couple families who have au pairs solely for this. Their au pairs work way less than the maximum, but the only way they could get afterschool driving and care (and keep in mind the window they need it is veyr short--we are in a FCPS school with the latest end time possible, like after 4pm) was to get an au pair.

I’m thinking of hiring a house keeper / driver for next year as we don’t need our full time nanny any longer and she’s a disaster at domestic tasks. 25 hours guaranteed at $40/hour. Bulk of job is housekeeping. This ends up being close to what we pay our nanny but I’ll get a clean house, organized house everyday with laundry done plus some help running kids around. Not sure this person exists but hoping.

Did you ever find this person? I am looking for the same situation and don't know where to look.
