I am actually looking for a nanny/sitter/person who's willing to drive my kids around to after school activities. I agree $50/day will definitely not cut it for many - but what is a reasonable compensation for two kids, per week that would make it worthwhile for the person? I am thinking about offering $35/hour, guaranteed 16 hours per week ($560) whether we use her or not. Opinions?
I think the issue isn't actually going to be the rate - it's the fact that people who need money typically have other responsibilities driving that need, i.e., kids. So they aren't available OR reliable. What you want to find, and this is the unicorn, is a college sitter who is free in the afternoons for a few hours. If you pay $25/hour cash to that person, you can find someone, but you have to remember it's not reliable. They call off a lot - exam stressing them out, party, vacation, etc. - and we were pretty up front this is OK when we used them. When my kids are a bit older/have more activities, we'll need to find a FT nanny/house manager type deal. Hoping our current nanny is OK with that type of arrangement.
