A pasta and green bean salad like this:

If kids won't be into it, just keep some of the pasta separate after cooking and serve my signature dish, buttered noodles.

Also, watermelon with feta and mint (again, keep separate melon for the kids if that works better).

And/or the red cabbage slaw and fresh corn on the cob suggestions.

Mac and cheese for adults? Really? Unnecessary high calorie food.

I would put everything on the grill. Corn on the cob and then a pile of grilled veggies. People can pick and choose. Or you can toss some okra in olive oil with a bit of salt and pepper, when it is almost ready, throw in cherry or other small tomatoes also tossed in a little oil and pepper, take it all off just before the tomatoes burst, add basil, mix and done. Then a side of fruit (peaches, watermelon, cantaloupe). If you want to be a bit fancier, serve the peaches or other berries with cream.

Delicious, and has protein and calcium. Better than a jar of pasta sauce on your spaghetti.

Some of us need the calories. Go away.
