Is a public school A = private school A- (or B+)?

How do colleges account for this discrepancy of grade inflation? How does this complicate building college lists?

So true. Our private….B+ = A anywhere else

at our private, we focus on schools that know and understand our grading system and look at those that feature in the matriculation lists. most colleges recalculate student GPAs according to their own custom formula anyway.

not all GPAs or As are weighed the same at selective colleges. reputation of school rigor is also considered unless the HS is unknown to the college.

Oh brother... It's like saying

public magnet B = private A+

Eat me, private school parents.

Every school, public or private, includes a school profile with a student’s transcript that is sent to colleges. Among other things, it explains the grading policy and put it in context. For example, it will say “ grade distribution: top 10 percent - 4.2 or above; top 20 percent, 3.9 and above, etc.”

Nobody is comparing anybody’s GPA to the students in any other school but your own. Whether your school is public or private.

This is really so school specific!

I'm in nyc where there are plenty of private schools that are pretty well known for grade inflation.

Here's an example of grade distribution:

I 100% do not assume public schools grade more leniently than private schools. Usually it's the opposite. Public schools kids can actually get a C or a D

Best be careful if you intend to rely on special treatment. On two of our summer college tours, AOs have said they do not re-calc GPAs.

A public school A = private school F. Just as
Harvard A = MIT F

Now you know if your kid is in Harvard equivalent of public school or MIT equivalent of private school.

Excellent example. Private school parents are delusional.

every cycle they see more than 1000 different HS from all over the country. no way they can "recalculate" everyone GPA.
