Buying coffee beans?

Anonymous
Where do you buy your beans? I can go to the roaster and spend $20 on a 12 oz bag, but I have been having good luck buying local beans at Whole Foods. however they are about $17 a bag. I went to Harris Teeter to look and the beans are SO old. They don't even work in an espresso machine because the freshest I could find was from April. Some even had sell by dates of May. I used to do a subscription but I don't like switching beans.

I am in moco.

Trader Joe’s or Mayorga. I also like Chesapeake Coffee Roasters found in grocery stores. We prefer medium-dark and dark roast.
We used to buy the Peet’s Major Dickason whole beans from Costco but they suddenly became weird.

We get ours shipped from Coava in Portland. They roast twice a week and ship the next day.

Costco- Mayorga, DD, Starbucks brands have whole bean options.

Do you go to Mayorga or ship? I drove 20 minutes to go there once and there was a sign on the door that they all had Covid.

IME Trader Joe’s coffee is terrible.

Not sure where you are but I like Swings which is available at Whole Foods in Alexandria.

I buy from Costco.

Another nod to Costco. Price is right, and their high volume of quantity sales means supplies are usually relatively fresh. Plenty of varieties and roast levels to choose from.

I normally buy from local roasters, but sometimes I’ll get Peet’s or Counter Culture at Target. Wegmans organic whole bean is good for the price too.

What grinders do you all recommend? I've been wanting to switch to whole beans but I don't have a grinder and I hate the mini ones.

I actually quite like Trader Joe's. We've had several people give us bags of nice seeming bags of beans as gifts from coffee making places but I still prefer TJ.
