In less than a week, this man will go to trial -- or plead out. Let's keep the spirit of these innocent girls alive and hope that justice is served. The community will be watching. |
Let's hope he gets real prison time! His speed and negligence were egregious. |
Where is the trial being held? Will it be open to the public? |
It would have to be in Fairfax County's courthouse.
The only reason to have a trial is if Usman is somehow planning to point a finger at the driver who turned. I would expect Usman would want a bench trial rather than a jury. I'm sure his lawyers are trying to get a plea deal where he doesn't go to jail or only for a few weekends. I sure hope the very lenient Commonwealth Atty in Fairfax Cnty doesn't decide to let Usman off with a tisk-tisk. Typically trials are open to the public. |
feel very bad for all parties, they were all so young. sad for the girls and sad for Mr.Shahid was going to go Virginia Tech. |
According to a Change.org petition, the trial has been rescheduled to October - November 2023.
I mean, what's the rush, the girls are already dead, right? |
Justice delayed is justice denied. The girls are dead and he enjoys life as a fun loving college student. |
He's actually enrolled in college? Has he been at Virginia Tech for the last year? |
Link to source of trial delay or of him being a current VA Tech student? |
There is an unofficial "update" on here saying that the trial is being delayed until late Oct into Nov. 2023.

I know an adult who killed two people in MD while driving very drunk and only served 3 years. I didn't realize until then that the penalty for vehicular manslaughter is so light. Just pointing this out because the teen driver in this story may not get as much time as many people think he deserves. |
Does this man have a job that associated with randonautica? A application designer in keeping its cycle publishing status up to date each year for the app or not. Since he’s a college tech student. |
Change.org has a petition up to present to Fairfax county courts to urge them to give a punishment fitting the loss of life and reckless abandon shown by this young man's willful actions. Just because he is and I quote a "promising young man" doesn't mean leniency is rite. The defense argues that punishing him will not help and may ruin his future,
The two dead promising young women have no future, the 3rd who survived will never live the life she could have and will likely spend her remaining time on this earth in debt and pain. This individual did not care enough about the people around him to consider the effect his actions could potentially have and letting him walk would only prove to reinforce this lack of empathy and fear of consequence. Sign of you have kids of your own, sign if you feel money should not subvert justice, sign because it's the rite thing to do. |
According to the Change petition, trial begins October 30. Has anyone heard any other updates? I am worried Shahid will get off with a slap on the wrist like the McLean high school student in Arlington (though he was under 18 which helped tremendously). |
Bumping this up b/c the trial is supposed to be starting tomorrow.
Justice for the girls! |
