| We are zoned for Mosaic and I've heard it is overcrowded... How bad is it? Other thoughts on this school? |
| Why was it renamed? |
Maybe this will help. It's right there on the school website: https://mosaices.fcps.edu/index.php/about/history |
John Mosby was a Confederate soldier, the Mosby Woods neighborhood was named after him, and the school was named after the neighborhood. Even though Mosby was a good friend of Ulysses S. Grant after the war ended, and appointed U.S. consul to Hong Kong after the Civil War, his past Confederate service led the School Board to conclude a few years ago the school should be renamed. "Mosaic" was an odd choice, though, since the school doesn't serve the Mosaic District (the kids who live in the Mosaic District go to Fairhill ES). |
Woke ignorance at its finest. This is what the school board was focusing on instead of opening up schools. |
Sorry OP - every time this school comes up, people get on a tangent about the name. We like it. Nice community, DD has found a good crowd. Principal is respected and on top of things. It is crowded, also being renovated now. My understanding is that as AAP kids increasingly choose to stay at base schools instead of going to Mosaic which is the AAP center, crowding should get better. But, it's never going to be a small school. |
| Bump. |
| It’s insanely crowded and your kid is just a number. The teaching even in AAP has really declined in the past 2 years. Used to have great specials teachers and most have left. If your kid isn’t a problem you will go here for 7 years and never interact with a teacher or the administration. They discourage parental involvement in any form. |
. Wow. My kid attended AAP there 4 years ago, and the teaching was pretty terrible then. It's hard to imagine that it has declined even more. I otherwise agree with everything you've posted. |
Hey look, a stupid post. Shocker. |
It won’t be overcrowded once the stunning new building is complete in two years time. |
|
Mosaic comes from ancient times where they used slaves to create them. Time
To rename again. |
| If Mosaic ES has a bad reputation like some of the posters pointed above, why is the real estate here insanely expensive and why do I hear from people that they bought places here for the school district? |
| The high quality of Mosaic definitely adds a premium to the values of houses in the vicinity. Also since the school is being rebuilt into a showpiece facility, that also factors into the school’s popularity. |
| Perhaps things have changed somewhat but the front office staff was collectively unwelcoming to hostile. |
