| [img] curious about the school , acceptances , and if religious background still plays a part in admissions |
| It’s good! Don’t have to be Catholic. |
| A lot of kids zoned for Sherwood HS attend GC. Reminds me a lot of Bullis |
| Is it too late to apply to GC for a rising sophomore? We just had a change in plans and are considering GC. Thanks! |
call the school! Maybe. |
|
I’m a parent of a rising junior at GC. Son is very happy there, his friends group is primarily Catholic from the feeder parochial schools but his friends also include other Christian denominations and Jewish teens.
I have heard that the incoming freshman class is quite large but have no clue what the sophomore class looks like. Call admissions. |
|
You don’t HAVE to be Catholic, but non-Catholics are at the back of the line when it comes to admissions.
Students from “feeder” and other Catholic schools come first. Then Catholics from other schools. And, of course, you also have athletes and other kids with special skills or attributes the school is interested in and Diversity candidates. Then there’s the others and some do get in, especially if they are full pay. |
| I heard it was ridiculously competitive to get in this year. |
|
And that will continue as more flee the public schools. |
| Rumor is that our feeder k-8 had less acceptances there that any of the usual single sex independents or SJC. Only 1 into the honors program. Kids admitted to Prep denied at GC. Tough year. Really tough year. |
| ^^ Agree. We are also at a k-8. One kid who we thought was a shoe in got waitlisted. He was ultimately admitted but we were surprised. |
| Same. My theory is that parents are rejecting the dated all boys schools for obvious reasons. This leaves the admissions to the co-ed schools extremely challenging. Top boy from our k-8 graduating class is going to GC. 1 boy and 1 girl admitted this year. That's it from a traditional feeder school. Boy could have probably gone anywhere. Not sure where else the girl applied. Boy chose GC Honors. We are a 7th grade family watching closely and a little nervous. |
| A great school! |
| How many students per grade? I thought the school was quite large but I might be wrong. I thought they accepted most. |
