She is now the first African-American woman to write a #1 country song.

Happy for her, but her OG performance was infinitely better! |
Whoa! Love love love this remake. And I’m not a country fan at all. Thanks for sharing! |
"Billboard estimated that Chapman had already earned approximately $500,000 in publishing royalties since Combs’ album dropped in March." Damn. |
Luke Combs has such a distinctive voice (too much the same too much of the time) but his Faster Car sounds to me way too close to the original - more like a karaoke version than a unique cover. |
Get that bag, Tracy |
This! Much prefer her voice to this song. There’s nothing else like it. |
I like both versions, but love that Tracy Chapman is getting recognition and paid. |
Versions? they are exactly the same just a different singer.
Her voice is better / more compelling. |
I was just going to say the opposite. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Which is why assumed this post would be about a hit she had a hit as a writer |
A lot of country music made these days is basically pop music or alternative music with real instruments and a bit of a twang. I recently started listening and it’s better than the garbage most pop stations play. |
+1. I heard the cover on the radio and just wanted to hear hers. But love that she's getting the recognition and $$$ she deserves. Love her so much! |
Agree, and I'm not a country fan. |
They’re so similar that it took me a minute to realize it was a cover. A lazy but fine job for Luke and thrilled to see Tracy getting the credit. |
She's an amazing songwriter. |
