A fair amount of Fairfax County - not sure about all of them but the McLean ones.

We live in Vienna I know that Flint Hill Elementary (our school) and Louise Archer don't have full-day. Here's a link to the schools with full-day kindergarten in Fairfax County. You can use process of elimination to determine which schools don't:

Choose 'Search by Special Program' and then 'Full-Day Kindergarten'

I live in McLean and know that both Churchill Road and Spring Hill ESs don't have full day k.

Weird that all of Fairfax isn't under the same system, right? How do they decide which schools get full vs half?

They're supposed to be adding schools each year, starting with the lowest test score schools and going upward. In Springfield/Kingstowne area, the whole whole day schools I know of that have whole day K are so new there's no real history to judge.

But next year, a number of schools will lose full day K.

I was told that full day k was not cut from the budget.

DS's kindergarten teacher seemed to think some schools would lose full-day K. I assume she's in the know.

No, no schools will lose full-day K. That was a big threat in the recent budget cycle, but it was saved.

For this year, no schools lost half day K. But the goal was for all FCPS schools to get full day K, but they are not adding full day K to any more schools at this time.

The ones that have full-day K are the ones in "poorer" neighborhoods or ones that tested lower, plus a couple others that were originally testing grounds for the program such as Westbriar in Vienna which is not considered a lower-income neighborhood but which has full-day K. They had originally wanted to phase full-day K into all schools, but they stopped due to budget cuts. Therefore, the schools in McLean, Vienna and Great Falls generally have 1/2 day K. For now, full-day K is saved. Who knows for next year.

Wakefield Chapel, Hunt Valley and Stratford Landing are all half day. Just the ones I know about.

Haycock is half-day, just like the other McLean schools.

FWIW I had a son go half day and one go full day both in Fairfax. I really don't see a big difference. The full day was actually quite hard on a 5 year old. It is very long and tiresome and it took months for the kids to make the adjustment. IMHO I think 5 is too young for all day schooling.
