We did but our day was overcast so there wasn’t a clear rising. Check the weather before booking.

We are doing this next week but not for sunrise, I think our ticket is like 7:30 am. I’ve heard it can be quite cold up there at sunrise!

Good to know…do you need a reservation to go at any time of day? Or only certain hours? Obviously people want to go for sunrise…but it’s also a great view all day right?

You need a reservation for any time you go.


There are two different reservation pages for sunrise and rest of the day. When we tried to book on the website on a laptop and mobile device a confirmation button wasn’t appearing and I got an error message. It worked on the app.

Side note, we decided to go for sunset because sunrise was around 5:30. Just something to be prepared for depending on when you go. I went as a kid at my request because I wanted to take pictures and loved the excitement of it. But it’s not necessarily anything more beautiful that sunrise on any other mountain.

Pretty much nothing is the same as it was 5 years ago in any sphere of life. This is true also of the national parks, many of which you now need a permit to enter or at least need a permit for certain roads and areas of the park, such as Cadillac Mountain. I believe it’s only open to cars now as well.
