Westbrook

What happened to this school? Really considering looking at other options now. It feels overwhelming, chaotic. Not what was there before when I attended as child.

Progressives.

When it doubled in size things went downhill. Thanks MCPS. It used to be such a nice neighborhood school.

How did it double in size?

As a result of rezoning other parts of Bethesda to relieve overcrowding at Bethesda elementary.

But sorry OP. Westbrook was underutilized and is now right sized to balance across the Bethesda elementary schools.

I think it experienced increasing enrollment like a lot of MCPS because people wanted to send their kids there. Not sure what PPs think MCPS should have done.

I think this is just a troll from the rezoning discussion who claimed Westbrook is now a title I school. 🙄

Westbrook has changed for the negative. It used to be a small neighborhood school. Now it’s not. I’m also not a fan of the principal and feel that someone a bit stronger could have helped the transition go smoother.

Neighborhood schools simply don’t exist anymore. It’s still drawing only from close by communities. Folks are upset though because now it includes more of the apartment buildings in Bethesda and Chevy Chase (the horror!).

We don't live in a static world. Things change.

Oh so it had a lot of extra capacity and surrounding schools were overcrowded. Seems super weird to complain about then.

For me, it’s not that it has become larger, it’s that the school doesn’t feel like a welcoming community school any longer. I feel like that’s MCPS as a whole- keeping parents out.

Exactly this.

We live in CCMD and our son is entering elementary school age soon. Can current parents share exactly what the problems are here? More specifically than just "not as good as it used to be"?
