| I’m considering doing a solo yoga retreat away from my family for a week or so. Perhaps Ubud. Has anyone done a yoga retreat and what did you think? |
| My neighbor (of Indian heritage) did one. He had to call his wife to pick him up after a couple of days. Big mistake. I think he romaticized the idea and found that the silent aspect and meditative aspect for days on end was way more than he bargained for. |

I loved the ones I've been on. Per a PP's comment, they aren't silent, unless you choose a program of that type.
I haven't heard of Ubud. Sometimes yoga teachers organize their own, and if you know of someone who has done a few it could be nice. Unless you're really comfortable in new situations/on your own, it may be more fun with a friend. Otherwise you meet new people there. Food is usually vegetarian. I haven't gone to ones where they pamper you. I've stayed in ones with single beds, sometimes bunkbeds, serve your own food buffet style, at times lend a hand around to help out. The programs / special classes can make it more entertaining, sometimes there are musicians or authors. Below are the ones I've been to. They all have a 'wellness center' where you can get massages, but it is not 3 or 4 star luxury at any. Probably yelp reviews could narrow it down. Sivananda Yoga Retreat (bahamas) and Yoga Ranch (Woodbourne in the Catskills, I drove, was nice to have my own car) Yogaville in VA. All are two meals a day. the ones above don't have coffee but you can discreetly bring instant coffee and use the hot water. Omega (Rhinebeck NY) was nice, too, good food and coffee served. Lots of programs, lots of places to wander and a lake for swimming. |
| Lots of cultural appropriation and middle-aged women. |
| Yes but only through a yoga studio that I knew well. I wouldn't go with strangers. |
| No but sometimes I think when I drop my youngest off to college I want to go to canyon ranch alone. |
| Adding on- I WOULD do one at like Kripalu or Omega because they are established retreat organizations. I wouldn't go on a random yoga retreat to Bali. |

I did one in Greece in 2004 met my husband there.

I’ve been looking at this for a weekend in the fall. It’s not yoga focused, but it looks very relaxing.

| Honest Soul Yoga does them to Costa Rica every year. Local studio in Falls Church and DC and few other locations around town I think. |
|
Do you do yoga? Almost every studio sponsors retreats and there are also places that do them constantly. They are all very different. What type of yoga do you like, where do you want to go, what are you looking for.
Your question is almost as broad as “has anyone ever gone on vacation? What is it like?” |
This. I can't see myself in isolation with patchouli and sweat but I can see myself at Canyon Ranch.... |
|
I do Ayurvedic health spa retreat in the Himalayas. There is also yoga included in it.

Yoga is for everyone. |
