I loved the ones I've been on. Per a PP's comment, they aren't silent, unless you choose a program of that type. I haven't heard of Ubud. Sometimes yoga teachers organize their own, and if you know of someone who has done a few it could be nice. Unless you're really comfortable in new situations/on your own, it may be more fun with a friend. Otherwise you meet new people there. Food is usually vegetarian. I haven't gone to ones where they pamper you. I've stayed in ones with single beds, sometimes bunkbeds, serve your own food buffet style, at times lend a hand around to help out. The programs / special classes can make it more entertaining, sometimes there are musicians or authors. Below are the ones I've been to. They all have a 'wellness center' where you can get massages, but it is not 3 or 4 star luxury at any. Probably yelp reviews could narrow it down. Sivananda Yoga Retreat (bahamas) and Yoga Ranch (Woodbourne in the Catskills, I drove, was nice to have my own car) Yogaville in VA. All are two meals a day. the ones above don't have coffee but you can discreetly bring instant coffee and use the hot water. Omega (Rhinebeck NY) was nice, too, good food and coffee served. Lots of programs, lots of places to wander and a lake for swimming.
