| I live in DC and am planning to move to MCPS this summer. The one house we are interested in feeds to NBMS (I have a rising 6th grader). If you are a current family that finished 6th grade, how was your experience? How big are the average classes? Any information is appreciated! |
Do you mean Rockville or Germantown? |
| No, NB MS is in North Bethesda and that is the name. Very well regarded school, even though my kids are now in HS. The Principal isn't the best, but she replaced one that the kids loved and the parents couldn't stand. Some of the teachers are outstanding and some are awful (probably just like any other MS). It is a very large MS that is no longer overcrowded due to an addition. And, WJ HS will no longer be overcrowded once Woodward opens (I think fall of 26), so you'll be 2 for 2 |
| Highly recommend. We moved there from a JKLM for 6th grade and had an excellent experience. Good overall teaching and leadership, strong but not obnoxious PTA, not overly entitled student body, great activities. |

My kids go there. It’s in bethesda, not North bethesda. Maybe when they named it in the 1960s this was north bethesda. But the current north bethesda goes to Tilden or antoehrr MS.
It’s a very nice community. Some of the teachers are fabulous, some are good, and most are somewhere in Between. The school itself is enormous so things like the hallways and cafeteria always feel really overcrowded. Parents could not attend 8th grade promotion ceremony because no room. So if you are expecting a small school feel, you will be disappointed. There are definitely some disciplinary problems and the kids complain about kids doing drugs or fighting but I think that’s somewhat exaggerated because MS kids feed off drama so the gossip mill magnifies everything. The curriculum is that same as all MCPS middle schools which means English and science largely stink. But there are a lot of kids who are really committed to learning and bring a positive energy to the classrooms. |
Yes, many people call Rockville North Bethesda now. |
Nobody calls Rockville North Bethesda. Many people call North Bethesda North Bethesda. Some people call North Bethesda Rockville; I don't know why, but they do. |
It's North North Bethesda |
If you don't like "North Bethesda," you could instead call the area "South Rockville," although nobody would know what you're talking about. Whatever it is, it's not Rockville. (Or Bethesda.) |
| Middle School is the weak link in Montgomery County. That said, NBMS is a pretty privileged crew, and for middle school, the environment is not awful. |
Middle school is the weak link everywhere. By definition, basically. That's why middle school exists. |
