I don’t recall ever studying in the library in college unless I specifically needed access to books (pre-internet days). There is a stereotype of students heading off to the library to study, but is it really true? There are plenty of other places outside the dorm/apartment students could go to that are more convenient.
Is this really a common thing? |
| I studied in the library all the time at college. |
| My children do. I am not sure why but they do not study in the dorms (as I did). |
| Hispanic her. I always studied in the library. Also took some killer naps on the couches! |
| *here |
| I didn’t myself but I know mine does -my campus only had one real library but hers has many of various vibes so lots of choices and her dorm/suite was a friendly place but not quiet |
| But most universities we visited--and the two colleges/universities my kids attend--the libraries are typically filled with students studying. Booking library study rooms is especially popular it seems and study groups will try and book the same one sequentially by having each member book the next slot. |
| I always studied in the library. Get away from your roommate and you never know what handsome human you might meet ... |

I liked to study in the library when I was in law school. I scheduled my day like a work day -- -I started with classes in the morning and stayed until about 5 p.m. to study and do whatever work I had to do. Then I went home and felt free for a few hours.
I had worked for several years before going to law school, so running my day like a work day made space for time that I didn't have to think about school work or allow it to take up my whole day and night. I needed to put a limit on it. The library was my day-time work space. |
My son said the library was quieter and calmer, so his concentration didn't get broken as often. |
| My daughter does, she is out of her dorm room every day until after dinner either at class, the library, the gym or the dining hall. |
What in the world does being Hispanic have to do with it. |
| Depends on the school. My oldest (tiny private) said the library was always too full, so she would go elsewhere. Second (big public) complains that the hours are too short to get in the habit of going over. So both like OP ultimately. |
| Yes, people really do study in the library. I always did in college and law school. Literally 4-5 days a week. My 2 DCs that are in college also study in the library at their colleges. |

I studied in the library all the time until I got a single my 3rd year.
My kids also study in the library. It can be too distracting/too loud in the dorms. Also my kid prefers to study with a group of friends, so they reserve the large study areas/rooms (each for 2 hours at a time) and will often spend 6pm-2am at the library with everyone studying/doing projects, and some socializing. Dorm rooms are too small, too old, no AC and no space for multiple people to be there studying comfortably |
