Charges related to drugs, guns, and money laundering while operating an open air drug market. Good news for us Ward 4 folks.

The indictment was crazy. I really hope this means improvements on Kennedy St. and the surrounding area and not just an opportunity for another crew to move in. I wonder how Janeese will characterize it?

We have been arresting drug dealers for decades with ZERO effect on the availability of drugs. We need a different approach.

Good. Arrest them all. What a menace to our neighborhoods.

What’s stopping you? Haven’t we been trying for almost 50 years now? When will we see the results?

The point here isn't to eradicate drugs. It's to get violent criminals and their guns off the street.

The crackdowns in the 90s and early aughts resulted in DC's late-aughts-early-2010s cratering murder rates and crime rates. We let our foot off the gas, and now we're reaping the consequences of that; 2022 saw more than twice as many murders as 2012. It's high time we crack down on drug dealers again. They're violent, carry illegal guns, and removing them from our streets has second-order benefits as well.

The problem with that story is the concurrent national rise in crime rates regardless of political policy and we are still nowhere close to the 90’s levels so that comparison is a far stretch. There has never been a time where DC did not “crack down” on violent drug dealers. What specific evidence do you have for “taking our foot off the gas”?

way to miss the point! if it wasn’t drugs, the crew would have some other way to control the block.

I was wondering the same — Will Janeese say anything regarding this? Seems like this has to be a win for her. She’s been speaking out on the violence there for a while.

Now if only they’ll get to the crews in Petworth and Park View …

If you aren’t prosecuted for a crime then you have not been found guilty. If you are jot guilty of a crime then why should you be subject to the penalty of a criminal record? This article doesn’t say anything about violent drug dealers.

I don’t care about drugs at all. I care about safety. If these guys were peaceful entrepreneurs helping people safely expand their minds, then they are welcome in our neighborhoods. If they are endangering people’s lives with guns and violent crime then lock them up.

thanks for demonstrating the point about taking your foot off the gas. DC has systematically removed ways to protect public peace.

+1

We live in this neighborhood and I drive on Kennedy St everyday. I am glad MPD arrested these criminals.
