home gym during Covid

Anonymous
I quit my gym membership when covid started and created a home gym. I'm not motivated at all with the home gym, anyone else have this problem. Now I am wondering what I should do to get more motivated?

Yup. Finally broke down and got a gym membership and trainer and back down to a more reasonable weight.

For years, I have had an elliptical machine in my basement. I ride it faithfully 5 days a week early in the morning. For me, it’s a time saver.

I don’t like to commute to work out. I don’t need childcare to workout at home.

Not sure if any of those things help you.

I need to follow videos or online programs these days to stay motivated. There are a handful of instagram accounts or online programs that set workouts. They help me stay inspired w/what I have at home.

Can you hire a trainer to come to your house?

I am the same way. I have zero motivation at home. I love the energy in the gym. I would just sell the equipment and get a gym membership.

I love my walk to the gym and consider it my me time. Not interested in having my kid circle around me while I am trying to move heavy weights.

I follow a live trainer and it helps to have a set schedule and to chat with others who are following.

I have a remote trainer (i.e. we train over zoom). It's great! No driving...but I still get interaction.

You need discipline, not motivation

I have a trainer online who gives me workouts I do asynchronously at home, and a PT/trainer I see once a month in her gym. The bulk of my workouts are at home - I much prefer that to spending $$ on a gym that I have to waste an extra hour getting to & from.

Stop forcing it. Free up that space in your house and sell the equipment. Get a membership. Your health is more important than the money spent on a membership.

Read about habit formation, if you are interested in continuing to work out at home. If you aren’t enjoying it once you start a work out, then figure out why that is and address that. May be the work out alone, which would be solved by rejoining a gym. But it may just be it is time to pick a new activity to add, lots of apps online now.
