YouTube has a lot of good options. Jessica Smith is very beginner friendly.
I bought adjustable dumbbells from Amazon that are 5, 8, 12, 15 lbs each but you can buy lighter or heavier based on your current strength. Reddit has some good fitness subreddits too |
I bought a variety of weights from 2-15 lbs from target/Amazon when I started and added heavier weights as I progressed. Peloton has great strength classes w/ weights. If you join on the app, also check out the “hardcore on the floor” group on Instagram or FB. They create a daily calendar of strength classes from peloton and take the guesswork out of planning. |
NP-could you post a link to the weights you bought? |
I mostly have hex dumbbells from target. I don’t like the adjustable weights pp mentioned bc I’m regularly changing weights and want to grab the appropriate weight dumbbells quickly. If you want adjustable, Costco has a good deal right now on a set of XTerra weights. Costco also frequently sells an inspire dumbbell set that is deeply discounted, but I’m not seeing it online. I sometimes see it in the store. |
I’m not a big fan of adjustable bells - I would start with a couple neoprene sets from Target. Maybe 5s and 10s if this is all new to you.
Then get a free trial for the Peloton app and do some beginner classes. |

If you've got the money, the bowflex selected makes adjusting weights easy |
Have these and hate them. It seems men like them but they are huge and bulky for me as a fairly small female. |
Peloton app is great. I think it’s $8 a month. I’m an avid gym goer, have lifted for years and do OTF and Barre and Peloton app workouts got me through Covid closures. Start with 5, 8, 10, 12 and maybe 15 lb weights as a beginner. They will tell you exactly what to do and how many reps. When it gets way too easy to do 10+ reps with the weight you’re at, you move up to the next highest weight. |
Oh, some Bala bangles are also good to have. They’re 1-2 lb ankle and wrist weights. Surprisingly effective even though it’s a small amount of weight |
Jordan Syatt fitness has an online dumbbell only without
Good videos |
Fitness Blender has great strength training videos. |
Some here posted about the Caliber app, and it’s great. You indicate what you equipment you have available at home or at the gym like dumbbells, resistance bands, barbell, etc. It’s gives you a workout 3 times a week. |
I have a bench, dumbbells, and a barbell.
I use the caliber app. |
