More than half of Americans pay no income tax bc they are too poor. Your privilege is showing. |
Cars are not the only problem. People flying all over especially abroad are also an issue — even on commercial flights. |
Demand is down. Counterintuitively, this is why prices are up. The gas companies need to make the same profit, so with less sales, they need more margin per sale. Hence, they’ve raised the prices. |
I’m not a GOP supporter, but you are correct. The elites on this cite have so much contempt for the people they supposedly care about. What a farce. It is really soul crushing to always hear what people not the elite should do. I will never support a major party whole hog. |

So which is it? |
+1 no comprehension of what it's like to work hard and still have little money |
That’s true. Maybe because I work smart, not just hard. If you call that privilege, than I guess I’m privileged to have been born with a high IQ. I won’t apologize for that. |
You have no clue what many people face each day to just scrape by let alone thrive. Things outside of their control. You must not actually be very smart or else you would never have made such an ignorant statement. |
Well gas companies know that people aren’t smart enough to work out they what they are doing to consumers.
Are those the “elites” everyone is mad at? No? You’re mad at an anonymous poster of unknown origin on an interweb chat board? Cool cool cool. |
DP.. the whining bubbas are, by their own choice, driving gas-guzzling pickup trucks that cost more than many far more efficient vehicles. And no, they don't "need" them - the average whiny bubba's pickup bed is barely even used. |
DP - Which? Combination of many things. And, some things being blamed are not actually all that true. Yes, there is high demand and consumption despite high prices. "Biden gas" - contrary to right wing rhetoric, US oil production is at historic highs. Contrary to right wing rhetoric, we currently still import less oil than we did under, say G.W. Bush. It's been repeatedly been pointed out that the gas companies are raking in record profits. They are gouging and profiteering. |
You mean for racing fuel? https://fortune.com/2022/05/19/washington-gas-station-reprogrammed-pumps-10-dollars/amp/ |
Politifact calls your claim BS. https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2022/mar/17/facebook-posts/persistent-high-gas-prices-dont-prove-price-gougin/ Comparing the price of oil and gas in June 2008 to March 2022 shows that oil companies are “price gouging.” ![]() Gas stations lose profit when oil prices increase sharply because they cannot drastically lift gas prices due to local competition, Petersen said. Then, when oil prices fall, gas stations try to recoup any losses before lowering their prices, she said. Unique factors in each state’s gasoline market also affect gas prices, said Devin Gladden, a AAA spokesperson. Locally, gas stations might have contracts with gasoline dealers that lock in prices at a certain rate for set periods of time — sometimes weeks or months, he said. |
That Politifact piece is basically an admission that it IS the gas companies and that IS intentional. It's not "false" - it's excuse-making. They have been raking in HUGE profits at Exxon, Mobil, Chevron, BP... How much more frickin "recoup" do they need out of our hides? ENOUGH ALREADY. |
Do people still wonder why there is so much division and talk of civil war in this country? Attitudes like this will be point number one when they look back. |
