Public torture avoidance request: The thread should end with the 21:06 PP. Please do not continue with a discussion on why Northeastern should not be a top university. |
+1. And please no junk from Instagram! This is marketing not stats! |
+1 Yet again. |
This is a good thing. More schools should be giving this higher weight. It clearly shows work ethic which means more successful grads sown the line. |
Most colleges say they count work experience as ECs, but these schools seem really care for low to middle class families. |
That's really interesting!
A friend's daughter who got into UCLA in 2022 with good grades but no stand-out extracurriculars and no sports had a part time job throughout high school (one day per week at a bakery--she would get there every Saturday at 6am through the school year--it was really impressive). |
Exactly. UCLA was grads with ultra strong work ethics. They'll be more successful. (At the risk of stating the obvious.). Smart is important, smart AND a demonstrated work ethic is the whole package. |
Northeastern makes perfect sense for this. It's important for its students to do well when they are on coops with the companies the school has relationship with. Sometimes students don't show up, quit, etc. like they do for classes. The school needs to maintain its reputation and reliability. Having good work ethic and responsibility is really an important part for them. |
UCLA also has one of the highest percentages of first gen students, most of whom had probably worked throughout their high school years. DD is at UCLA and worked in the summers, but not throughout the school year during high school. It is truly one of the most all-around diverse schools in the country. |
+1 they can juggle work, work, activities. |
^work, *school*, activities. |
OP has not proof that this information is accurate. |
