Anyone BTDT? DS 26 months has been ready to train for a few months (we're a devoted Oh Crap method household). The issue is his stools are much runnier than his older siblings and more "reactive", especially after eating fruit. His ped calls it "toddler's diarrhea" and says he will likely grow out of it. No other symptoms that would indicate an allergy.
Ped did say there are fibers and other supplements we can try to bulk up the stools for training, but that it's not necessary. |
| It might be better to hold off on training with him until the diarrhea isn’t as much of a concern. Is he telling you when he needs to get changed? |
| My child had a digestive condition which caused diarrhea right around time we started to potty train. We held off until we figured it out. It took a few months but we picked up where we left off and she jumped back into it. It didn’t take long for her to be fully potty trained after we restarted. |
Do this. The thing about potty training is that parents/caregivers need to be fully on board too, and even if he can deal with this issue fine, if it's going to make it significantly harder on you, I'd wait until you can resolve this or make it better. I'm just thinking about how this could work with accidents, or even just the basics of using training potties and needing to empty them. It sounds like a headache that could make it harder for you guys to be the supportive cheerleaders you have to be. I'd wait. |
| I’m not a doctor so you might want to run this by yours. However, at that age DS was on laxatives due to severe constipation. The specialist had us add pectin to his diet (they sell it at the grocery store) and it firmed things up. |
