Some humor...when gen x hits/moves into the assisted living and nursing homes

Please join in. Helps me blow off steam dealing with a difficult elderly parent. My husband and I joke about this.

* At the AL dance parties...You know that song where he says "Now wait a minute...this dance is only for the sexy people"...I have a vision of my husband walking with a cane and me walking with a walker and we are determined to get ourselves up and onto that dance floor to be one of the "sexy people"

*Can you imagine the play list at the piano sing alongs: "Ice ice baby", "You down with OPP?...Yeah you know me!" "I want you to know" (Alanis Morissette)

*Our grandchildren come to visit and we tell the feral generation x stories for the 100th time. "Yes grandma, we know. There was no internet. You had jobs from an early age and cooked your own meals. Your parents threatened violence and actually spanked you. You drank from the hose because your parents wouldn't let you in the house until the street lights started to come on. You got shot by bb guns. You wandered the woods and ate honeysuckles...mmmmm.hmmm. We know!"

*The have a nostalgia day and serve poptarts for breakfast, pb and J, fruit roll-ups and hohos or twinkies for lunch and Stouffers TV dinner for dinner. We wear anything from Madonna "Like a Virgin Tour" T-shirts, to grunge to punk rock outfits and....Doc Martins.

*There is a nostalgia sitting room decorated with posters of Duran Duran, U2, Farah Fawcett, Mr. T, "This is your brain on drugs", The Smiths, Billy Idol, "Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood", Wayne's World, The Brady Bunch and The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire.

Actually, I should say "there were no IPhones." We had the dial-in internet where it made all those crazy sounds and took forever.

And think about movie night… Breakfast Club, Reality Bites, Say Anything.

And they can bring in outfits from Clueless to dress up in.

Game nights can be Atari consoles with pac man and space invaders

The TV monitors show School House Rock videos on endless loops.

I have given this a fair amount of thought actually and assume board game and puzzle rooms will be replaced with gaming chairs, wide screens and NES systems.

You must be a young Gen X. I'm at the other end of the age group - no interwebs throughout university.

At 10 pm can the PSA “it’s 10 pm do you know where your children are” play on the intercom?
