| Picking up our pup today after a week. Am I expected to tip on top of what I paid to Rover? How much if it was $60/night? |
| I do. I'd probably do 100 dollars for the week. |
Same. |
| I do tip, I think 5% or 10% of the total price. There's a button on Rover for those percentages. Mainly because the boarder I use has lower prices than a lot of others, but she seems pretty responsible, so I feel I have to add a little extra. If the boarder was among the most expensive, I wouldn't really want to tip on top of the boarding fee. |

Does the pet sitter not set the rate for themselves? ie, if they want more total money, should they not then set their rate higher ... in order to get more money?
I am confused as to why (other than Rover obnoxiously presents you with a tip screen) we should be tipping an independent contractor who has complete freedom to set their rate exactly where they want it. |
|
FYI Rover takes 20% of the petsitting fees, but 0% of a tip.
|
“You are confused?” Mmkay. So don’t tip. No one is coming to your house to hold a gun to your head to force you to tip. If you liked the sitter and they did a good job, just don’t expect to use them again. Done. |
I don't understand why the pet sitter doesn't set their rate higher to start with. Do you know why? |
Agree. I have never heard of tipping on a service like this. PPs are weird and starting a terrible precedent. |
Not sure, but I always pick the people with the higher rates and then I tip nicely. The goal to eventually go off Rover and to have them always accommodate my pets over others. I think they don't go higher because other people wouldn't reach out at all? Rover is kind of skewed by all the people who don't do it for money as it is. Also, Rover takes a big cut. |
| I haven’t tipped yet, but I pay for the walker to “walk” my cat with my dog for 60 minutes to allow time for her to give them both dinner after my dog has been walked for ~30 minutes or so. Historically I’ve tipped walkers and sitters at holidays like I do with other service providers. |
| I did not tip my pet sitter last year because she was the owner of her sitting service and I paid high rates for the service (small pets who mainly needed water bottle changes). I think she mentioned getting tips during our the first visit. She never returned my calls or texts several weeks later when I tried to book her services again. |

I do rover in my free time to get out of the house and half my clients tip, other half doesn’t. I don’t take it personally.
I use rover when we go away on vacation and don’t tip the cat sitter, because although she shows up, she is not good about refreshing the water and such. |
