Does the pet sitter not set the rate for themselves? ie, if they want more total money, should they not then set their rate higher ... in order to get more money? I am confused as to why (other than Rover obnoxiously presents you with a tip screen) we should be tipping an independent contractor who has complete freedom to set their rate exactly where they want it.
“You are confused?” Mmkay. So don’t tip. No one is coming to your house to hold a gun to your head to force you to tip. If you liked the sitter and they did a good job, just don’t expect to use them again. Done.
I don't understand why the pet sitter doesn't set their rate higher to start with. Do you know why?
Not sure, but I always pick the people with the higher rates and then I tip nicely. The goal to eventually go off Rover and to have them always accommodate my pets over others. I think they don't go higher because other people wouldn't reach out at all? Rover is kind of skewed by all the people who don't do it for money as it is. Also, Rover takes a big cut.
