Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
| So looks like 4th grade won’t be gender combined, 5th would be gender separate for only three lessons and 6-8 will be gender combined. The report stated most parents and students don’t want gender combined. |

Hmm. All of that is still labeled “recommendations” with the approval by the school board still to come.
The 21-22 recommendations included all gender combined instruction for grades 4-8, and obviously that was not approved. With the community engagement numbers so opposed to gender combined (84%) I’m not sure it will be approved even leaving 4th separate and 5th separate for the puberty and reproduction lessons. |
| The inclusion of what other districts are doing with their lessons (combining or separating) was interesting. Lots more already combine than I would have guessed. I wonder how that affects the opt out rates. |
| Didn't realize they teach about STDs in fifth grade. |
| If the vast majority of parents do NOT want gender-combined lessons, why are they even considering it? See, this is what FCPS does. They claim they're soliciting the views of parents, but then they go right ahead and do whatever they want. |
Look no further than the members of the FLE committee. More than one testified at the SB meeting on Thursday. They are activists with a social agenda. |

Read the curriculum. It used to be a very comprehensive, age appropriate, science and biology based sex ed lesson that most people would be comfortable with. That is no longer the case. This school board has systematically destroyed FCPS, especially under the last superintendent. If you care about your kids, it is impreative that you pay attention more than our parents did and more than one would consider a normal level of parent involvement. November 2023 cannot come soon enough. |
| Opt out your DC |
Even students stated at a high rate they would not be comfortable. I am a sixth grade teacher and I am totally against this. If this passes, in my opinion they should have trained individuals like Loudoun does. Classroom teachers don’t teach FLE there. |
After opting out your DC, watch this video. It will help you for when you have on-going conversations with him/her to clarify (age appropriate) what is being discussed at school, because it already is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YysgbnBohhc |
