Academic Excellence vs Achievement

What are the objective measures for these? I didn’t quite catch the explanation at ES graduation.

Excellence is high grades, achievement is more about effort.

DS told me the achievement used to be called improvement.

Excellence is the higher award.

Excellence requires some sort of “pass advance” on sol.

Most get the Achievement award. Far fewer kids receive the Excellence award.

The standard is objective. People get upset every year about not receiving this but it’s a simple formula. Why schools don’t advertise it beforehand so kiddos can work towards it beats me?!

Sounds like an equity violation

Is the standard stated anywhere on their website?

They need to get 3s and 4s on their progress reports (including behavior$ and pass their SOLs. The higher award is those that Pass Advanced.

Excellence requires all 3s and 4s and a Pass Adv on SOL.

So is Achievement no pass advance on sol but all 3 &4s?

At our school achievement is for kids who do well but not necessarily pass advanced or kids who made a lot of growth.

There were 200 6th graders in my kid's school.. Those who did not get the Excellence award got the achievement award.

6th grade isn’t even considered. It’s 4th and 5th.
