MacArthur High School opens 11 weeks from today

Anonymous
I was looking at the DCPS calendar and first day is Monday, August 28, which is 11 weeks from today. Will MacArthur be ready? Will it have a permanent name?
Anonymous
Hopefully they'll leave the name MacArthur and not waste time and resources worrying about something superficial.

Woodrow Wilson High School.

the permanent name is Macarthur for now. They will be ready because DGS always delivers schools
on time even if they have to throw money and work around the clock.

This. The contractors will flood the work site with +400% personnel to get it done on time.

I lived next to Marie Reed ES when they had their big renovation back in 2016. It was a sight to behold the last 3 weeks of August. Hundreds of people working 7 days per week to get all the finishing touches done. I think the work site would shut down from 10pm to 4am, but that's it.

I'm convinced that DCPS spends 50% of renovation budgets in the last four weeks of summer break on overtime for the workers to get a new school opened on time.

and then pay for years to address the crappy work.

There will only be 250 kids the first year, so they don't have to finish anything.

Weird that the only 2 languages offered for the first few years will be Spanish and Italian.

yeah, it will be ready.

and after the wilson/JR renaming fiasco DCPS isn't going to pick a person to name the school unless a political does it for them (so the councilmember/mayor takes the heat)

I don't think frumin or bowser care (they are the only two with a say since it is in ward 3). i think they are the macarthur mammoths for the foreseeable future unless a group creates a big campaign otherwise.

though to be honest, it is weird to have a school named after general MacArthur. Would've preferred Western, Palisades, or Conduit High (what MacArthur Blvd was called historically)

Yeah MacArthur has what they'd call a "complicated legacy."

They should offer a placement exam for Italian speakers as an admissions preference. It's crazy that your only option for Italian in DC is Hardy/MacArthur.

Or crazy that any school offers it?

What happened to Chinese? Will MacArthur not have it?
