"On Tues., June 6, I spoke at a Montgomery County Board of Education meeting about inclusive education & whether families should be permitted to opt their children out of LGBTQIA-inclusive curriculum materials. I regret that although my remarks were focused on promoting inclusion, they created an opportunity for misunderstanding and mischaracterization. I apologize for the hurt that caused in the Muslim community.
Even when individuals disagree about difficult issues, I am committed to finding space to foster authentic dialogue and seek points of understanding. I sat down to hear from Muslim community members before my remarks on Tuesday and with District 5 Muslim leaders on Thursday. I listened, and I understand their concerns. I look forward to continuing to work with members of our Muslim and LGBTQIA+ communities as we take on issues of importance for all residents." | *Is* that an apology though? |
|
The word "apologize" is used in "I apologize for the hurt that caused in the Muslim community."
It is like, I apology but there is no promise I will not hurt you again...... What do you think? Any example of how true leaders apologized? |
It is not. It fakes you out by using the word apologize, but she doesn’t apologize for her actions/words. She apologizes for how someone may have erroneously interpreted them. It’s absolute BS. Right up there with “I’m sorry you feel that way…” |
|
It's the old
"I'm sorry you were offended" bit. |
I’m the OP of this thread in MCPS https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1136644.page. I didn’t even realize Mink had been as insulting as Harrison. They should know better, as elected officials. This apology strikes me as forced, right down to the “listening sessions” (or whatever they’re called). |

Ooops, here’s the link

| No forgiveness for hatred. |
| Sounds like people don’t like her based on those Twitter comments |
Her comments, and Lynne Harrison’s, were truly obnoxious and insulting. |
| Who is Lynne Harrison? |
Not finding topics age appropriate is not the same thing as hatred. I just took a look at some of the books listed in the lawsuit. I’m not sure looking for “leather” and “underwear” at a pride parade should be in a book designed for 3-4 year olds. I’d feel differently about that if we were talking about an older age group. Is that hatred? I don’t think so. I also don’t think you contribute well by labeling things you disagree with as hatred. |
| I believe it is Lynne Harris. |
| There’s another thread about Kristen Mink, because I guess she sticks her foot in your mouth all the time. I can’t believe I just followed that Twitter link and read a Fox News article (I might have to bleach my eyes), but if what they are reporting is even a little bit true. Then I am even more disappointed with her. Hating on a racial group and speaking disparagingly about them is wrong. The irony that she is so hateful on white women, when she herself is married to a white man, and I think she has daughters, who might be considered white. |
It is interesting. But her kid is trans, so trampling on a few white people is ok, because we know that in progressive poker trans trumps race any day of the week. |
