Losing inches but not pounds

Anonymous
What is this? I’m a few months postpartum - gained a lot, third kid (I always gain a lot) - and focusing on getting back in shape. Clean diet, lots of cardio, stretching, and body weight exercises. I’ve lost about an inch from hips, bust, waist, and thigh (each). Feel stronger and more energetic. Clothes fit more loosely. But the weight on the scale isn’t budging: what is up with that?

Congratulations, that’s the win. Not a number on a scale.

I find that I don't lose both at the same speed. Weight loss for me starts w/ recomposition of the fat/muscle and see visual changes before I see weight or inches decrease. Then it seems that I will have a period of weight loss and then plateau but inches decreasing. Then again after a few weeks I will see another weight decrease of several pounds. So for me it comes in waves. Key is to be consistent in exercise and diet and not give up.

Muscle is more dense (less volume) than fat.

If you really want to know muscle v fat get an InBody scan

Probably some water retention is masking fat loss. The scale will eventually follow if you are in deficit.

At a gym near me - I don’t live in DC

This seems like a win. The real goal is to have a good shape, not to be as light as possible.

Muscle retains more water than fat and maybe you’re better hydrated. Better this way then lower weight but no shape change !
