LCPS school years and summer break

Anonymous
Summer 2023 (students): June 9 (today)-August 23 (76 days)
2023-24 school year: August 24-June 14
Summer 2024 (students): June 15-August 21 (68 days)
2024-25 school year: August 22-June 17
Summer 2025 (students): June 18-August 20 (63 days)
2025-26 school year: August 21-June 16

The next 2 years reduce summer from almost 11 weeks to under 10 weeks and exactly 9 weeks. Those 3 school years are 10 school days longer but they still have unnecessary days off (like religious holidays that actually fall on weekends)!

2023-24
November 13 Holiday (Diwali) Diwali is actually on Sunday, November 12, 2023
February 9 Holiday (Lunar New Year) Lunar New Year is actually on Saturday, February 10, 2024
November 7, 2023 and March 5, 2024 should be virtual days (yeah everyone hates those but this is 2 days thanks to elections)
March 22 End of Grading Period
April 1 Student Holiday
This brings summer 2024 to 72 days but ends on a Monday..... I'd say remove 1 day and finish on June 7, 2024 and gain a week!
Summer 2024 June 8-August 21 75 days

2024-25 is harder since there is only 1 religious holiday on a weekend to reclaim and 1 election day to make virtual and even then summer 2025 falls short of the 70 day threshold as it would be 68 days (up from 64) with a Friday, June 12 ending which is still a little late given the August 22 start. Maybe end on Wednesday, June 10.
Friday, October 11, 2024 Holiday (Yom Kippur) Yom Kippur is actually on Saturday, October 12, 2024
November 5, 2024 (Election day) should be virtual
Friday, March 28, 2025 End of Grading Period
Monday, March 31, 2025 Holiday (Eid al Fitr)
Monday, March 31, 2025 Spring Break Begins
Friday, April 4, 2026 Spring Break Ends
Monday, April 7, 2026 Student Holiday
Tuesday, April 8, 2026 Student Holiday
Friday, April 18, 2026 Holiday (Good Friday)

Don't even get me started on 2025-26 as all religious holidays fall during the week leaving just an election day to go virtual.

We're moving closer to "year round" school with shorter interspersed breaks rather than one long summer break.

Private is a good option for whiners

Dang, we’re becoming more like FCPS. Don’t like that.

And those of us completely fed up with the BS we’ve been spoon fed about this county being a top notch education. We will be paying way more than we can afford for private next year just to get our kids out. And we’re lucky we can even get them in… a lot of parents are waking up out here!

Vacay baby!

But in all seriousness there is nothing unusual about 180 school days which these all have. The weird part is all the days off, which is what makes the summer break shorter.

Private options in Loudoun are terrible. Better off just supplementing your child and putting that money towards their college or inheritance. No private in Loudoun is worth what it charges.
