Is Bora Bora worth it for a family trip?

Anonymous
Ever since I saw Couples Retreat it's been on my bucket list. But I'd love to take the whole family. I've been looking online and seeing all these amazing overwater bungalows; some with water slides! So far our favorite family vacation destination has been Beaches Turks and Caicos, where we've gone for the past two years. Is Bora Bora worth the added expense and the loooooong trip there? I currently have a 13-, 10- and 4-year old. Who has done Bora Bora, either as a couple or as a family? Would love your feedback about...

1. Where to stay (I'm eyeing St. Regis!)
2. What are the fewest number of nights we could stay to feel like it was enough (I'm a fan of brief vacations - hard to get off work/school for too long)? Would five nights be too short?
3. Best time of year to go? I'd love to go between Christmas and New Year but concerned about weather/crowding/max pricing.
4. What should I expect to spend for a family of five for my desired five-night trip (unless you tell me I'm nuts to go for only five nights)?
5. What is there to do for kids?

Thank you!

We are saving it for just us. Overwater bungalow. I have fantasies of just lying around naked and having sex all day, leaving the doors open and sleeping naked, swimming and not being bothered, etc.

I think of bora bora as a romantic honeymoon destination. I don’t think I’d bring kids but you could.

We went for our honeymoon 15 years ago. Not much there for kids. Stayed at St. Regis, which was new and amazing then but is probably sort of rundown now. I do not remember any kids being there. We went for two weeks. It is a long way there so 5 days seems super short to me.

Ha ha love the opinion on what a property is like that you haven't been to in 15 years. They do have maintenance staff!

We stayed in one of those overwater bungalows but in Maldives. It was almost all couples, lots of honeymooners. I wouldn’t bring kids but it’s your choice.

You’re eyeing the St Regis but it is hard to get off work school?

When we stayed Igor a week it was probably about $150k for the week.

people who have a lot of money usually have at least one spouse who works ALL the time.

I wouldn't do Bora Bora but Fiji with kids can be fun. Look at Jean Michael Cousteau resort.

Thanks; I did just check this out. Looks like they're sold out for the next year!

Yes and they can typical work from anywhere, aren’t taking time off, and or have at least one member of staff with them.

OP, 5 days is way too short for a trip that long. Especially with kids. I travel to Asia every year but you really need 10 days to make it worth it, 2 weeks if possible. Europe is a good kid trip for 5 days, or some parts of South America maybe. You couldn’t do a trip like Galapagos in 5 days, but maybe Rio?
