K-12 privates do not have the endowments that most universities do, and they choose to spread out aid rather than give out a large # of full rides. The % of families getting material financial aid is even lower than what you’ve listed. |
I saw those same numbers and thought they seemed very positive. It's expensive to run a school and it's great that 1 out of 4 or 5 kids is on financial aid.
Why do you find it depressing? |
Why is that depressing? |
That’s way higher than I would’ve guessed. Good for them. |
Potomac School 21%
Bullis 34% St. Andrew's 1 in 4 Holton 25% Landon 28% Georgetown Prep 28% |
Compare with many other private schools across the country which are closer to 40-50%. |
What other schools? |
Harvard Westlake 20% |
% of the class on aid is not meaningful; looking at avg award is. |
They’ve got LA money, which is in a whole other stratosphere than anything around here. Same goes for NYC. |
They’re all pathetic. Which is why I laugh when the schools taut their “diversity.” What a joke. They’re schools for rich kids. |
So much philanthropy is required to make this happen. Well done, these numbers are incredible! To anybody who thinks otherwise, how much have you donated to fund private school financial aid? |
% on aid is very meaningful. Even if some families only get a little aid it indicates there may be more middle class and working families than gadjillionaires. |
That’s not really financial aid. It’s a discount. Time to accept that nothing is pure merit. |
