Extra $500 to fet assigned seats on flight round trip for 4 pp

Anonymous
We are traveling with 2 young kids, 3 and 7 year old. $500 is a lot of money. For delta or anerican airline, will they at least sit one kid and one adult together if we don't pay for assigned seats? It is domestic flight trip for less than 2 hours one way nonstop.

Are there open no-fee seats next to each other, usually in the back? If not, and most of the seats show as selected except singles, I don’t think I would risk it.

We usually do 3 seats (1 adult /2 kids) and let the other adult get whatever random seat

The 7 yr old can sit anywhere. They're 7.

For $500 I would take my chances. It is only a 2 hr flight.

"American's customer service plan now says it guarantees children 14 and under will be seated with at least one accompanying adult so long as the family is booked on the same reservation and there are adjacent seats available in the same fare class the tickets were originally booked in "

I know how this board feels about people not paying extra for assigned seats, but this policy might as well just say "We will try to seat your family together" and stop pretending that this policy is going to apply to most flights.

by the time I find flight fares, calculate the seat and baggage fees, the difference to just pay for first class is often not a big leap

For Delta, no. Your kid, even the 3 year old, may end up sitting next to strangers.

That happened to me and my child on a flight 2 years ago. I happily paid for my kid to sit next to me (always do, even with him being a teen now). But two parents didn’t so their toddler girl (maybe 2-3 yrs old) was put in the 3rd seat next to us. It was fine bc I’m a mom and kind of looked out for the toddler, but what if instead she ended up next to a dirty perv or some other undesirable element of society?

Don’t take chances with your children OP. I’ve sat next to some true weirdos on flights. If it’s a 3-seater, I always put my kid by the window and I sit in the middle, to protect him from flight weirdos.

Why is a short domestic flight so expensive? They will seat you together, at least 2 and 2, I wouldn’t pay.

Our flights for 4ppl to Boston this past weekend cost less than $500 one way, including seats! I’m dying to know OP’s airline and destination.

Sometimes routes with more flights are less expensive. For example, can be $$$$ to fly to a mid size city with one direct a day versus flying to Chicago, with multiple flights a day. (Not sure this is OP’s situation but one idea!)

Really ? I would be uncomfortable letting a 7 year old be separated from a parent or guardian when travelling.

Unless you pay, there is no guarantee you’ll be assigned a seat near your child(ren). Just pay, don’t make it weird, OP.

That's outrageous to pay that much extra in ADDITION to your seats. I've seen specific seats for a family of 4 for maybe $150 extra round trip total but I was able to call the airline and they confirmed they would sit us together I typically fly European airlines though :/

I would call the airline honestly and just see what can be done.

To each their own. By 7, all my kids were fine flying separate from us if needed.
