| Is it formal? Do I need to dress up a bit? Just wondering what others have done. |
| I wore a Calvin Klein jumpsuit with tie waist. |
| Ours was in an indoor stadium and almost everyone was dressed casually - large graduating class with many in attendance. If you are going out to dinner afterwards you dress for that depending on where you’re going. |
| My kids were outdoors and HOT! I wore a sleeveless dress, sunscreen and should have brought some waters. I had to go early to get a good seat. |
| Jeans, nice sneakers, and a nicer top that I'd wear to work (a step up from a t-shirt). My kid's HS graduation is not about me. |
|
I’ve had kids graduate from both. No difference in what I wore.
It’s a formal celebratory experience. Business casual for your locale is appropriate. |
It's a graduation not a sporting event. |
| At a large public, absolutely everything will be represented, including families who are very formal in suits and nice dresses. Agree with planning around the next activity. For us that was a family lunch, sundress and heeled sandal for me. |
Obviously. I'd wear a t-shirt to a sporting event. Just kidding - I would never go to a sporting event. |
| Have some respect and dress like an adult going to a nice restaurant. |
| If it's a large graduation ceremony be sure to wear comfortable, walking shoes. |
|
Wow! People no longer dress nice to attend graduation?
Please tell me nobody is in jeans or t-shirts. |
Have you ever been to a public HS graduation? |
Some are in jeans and a tee shirt. Most are in nice business casual. For women a blouse and dress pants with flats or a dress with low heels or sandals. For men, a polo shirt and khaki pants. There are some men who wear suits in hot weather, often standing in line for 40+ minutes before they are allowed to go to their seats. There are women who wear high heels and formal dresses and look absolutely miserable trudging across (sometimes gravel) parking lots and hot concrete to stand in line for nearly an hour before the venue opens for seating. I am guessing they wear such formal attire for photo ops with their grad. But in large ceremonies, good luck tracking down your grad after the ceremony. It's a sea of people and no one cares what you are wearing. |
| I simple skirt and shirt is fine. Make sure your kid looks good. It's about your graduate, not about you. |
