Uninvited…

I was supposed to visit my cousin for the weekend next month. We have planned this weeks aho. Then yesterday I asked of I could bring my grandchildren. They are teens and self-sufficient. All of a sudden my cousin claims that she can’t host me because she hasn’t been feeling well. I already purchased my flight. Should I be upset with her?

OP: Planned to stay at her house.

Hahha are you serious??? You were trying to change the plan from a single adult houseguest to add multiple teenage houseguests? Holy crap. You are waaayyyy out of line

Sounds a lot like this week’s Miss Manners in WaPo:

OP: My cousin said they are “welcome anytime”. This trip was supposed to originally be just me, and I just asked if they can come and now she wants to back out of entire hosting me too. It was just supposed to me at first but they found cheap tickets. I ASKED her if it ok if they come. She could have ssid No instead of canceling me too.

Nice troll attempt.

OP: I’m generally baffled as to why she would fall ill and cancel entire trip vs politely saying no, my grandchildren cant come. Im not a troll. Have a good night. People are so rude.

NP. Someone has to run into pretty much every single thread here now and mindlessly call the OP a "troll". It's really tiresome.

Is it possible she is having some kind of medical issue?

Here’s my take..she wasn’t looking forward to your visit in the first place and adding on teens was the straw that broke the camels back. The fact that you don’t think it’s a big deal to invite a couple of teens to be hosted by someone else says volumes that you are a presumptuous and pushy person.

Pretty much this.

Or, perhaps she is actually sick.

It’s awkward for her to say no. You shouldn’t have put her in that position..

Team Cousin. Why would you do that?!?! The fault is yours. Call her and apologize. What were you thinking?

It was an ask, not a summons. OPs cousin could have said "no we don't have the room" or "we can't accommodate them too" and just proceeded with the original plans. That's what an adult would have done, vs. a petulant child, which is apparently OPs cousin.

It was a rude thing to ask. Maybe the cousin found it rude and off putting and decided they didn’t want a visit from someone rude.

It’s such an awkward position to be in. OP wasn’t really asking - she was informing while pretending to ask. You don’t get to invite people to someone else’s house.
