Jamestown ES

Moving from out of state and considering purchasing a home zoned for Jamestown ES. We have three kids (rising k, 2, 4). What is the school like?

It’s the whitest, wealthiest ES in Arlington. There are PTA events at the country club. If you are a family of color, your kids may not meet any classmates who look like them.

Also Arlington just passed the most progressive zoning code in the country and you can build up to a 6 unit apartment building in any single family neighborhood in the country. Nobody things there will be radical changes overnight, but just be aware that if you buy on a street of homes ripe for redevelopment that you may see duplexes, triplexes, and more replacing the older homes.

Search this forum. It’s highly-ranked but many families feel excluded and unwelcome.

Sorry you couldn’t afford a house inbounds for Jamestown.

I can! But we also don’t use the public schools.

So if you read the post above, these are the kind of people you will find there.

OP - Thanks! I’ve search the forum. Interested in any current views on how the school is doing.

Let's be realistic here. This really isn't going to be a big threat in the Jamestown zone.

There might be a few side by side duplexes or townhouses that sell for $1.5 mil each, so that would be tragic.

I don’t think it will see a large impact at all. Maybe a few things on Glebe or Old Dominion. But OP doesn’t live here so likely has no idea. I would personally want to know that possibility before making a move. It would likely be a surprise to most homebuyers.

Your tone suggests that these are negatives.

It's always one of the top-performing schools in Arlington due to the demographics. It's a good community, albeit rife with affluenza.

PP who said PTA events are held at the country club is wrong -- they're held at the schools. However, the annual fundraiser IS indeed held at the Washington Golf and Country Club. And it's an over-the-top soiree.
