Cape May

I have family who are thinking of meeting in Cape May this summer (it's about 4 hours for everyone who will be traveling). I'm not really a jersey shore person - but someone sell me on the great things to do there?

Cape May is one of my favorite places on the Jersey shore. More quaint and quiet than other beaches. Cape May zoo is great if you have kids. Tons of shops and restaurants in the downtown area. And if you have older kids who like rides then Wildwood isn’t far.

I have young teens - and I didn't realize Wildwood was close. Thanks!

It’s charming. It books up really far in advance. Have you found a place? If you are looking at hotels, Congress Hall is nice.

You'll love Cape May.

Breakfast: Mad Batter, Uncle Bills Pancake House,

Dinner: Tisha's. 410 Bank St, Union, Lucky Bones....there are a ton more dining options in Cape May than most s jersey towns.

Rent bikes! You never need to drive in cape may. I like the beaches around the lifeguard station ~ Grant street and down to end. Take the kids to the lighthouse, do the zoo, have fun on the beach, do a night at Wildsood boardwalk.

Cape May is he best

Yes- we are doing a giant air B&B - 6 adults, 4 kids.

It was...not cheap

My suggestion - if you have teens and want to do a boardwalk day or evening, drive from Cape May and bypass Wildwood and head to Ocean City. It is a bit farther but it is so much nicer. Ocean City is very family oriented and a dry town. Boardwalk is smoke-free. There are arcades and rides and pizza, fudge and all kinds of fair food all along the boardwalk plus escape rooms and mini golf, etc. Wildwood caters to drinkers and partiers and is generally more of a working-class vibe. And face it, we're on DCUM, so I think I can say that. Ocean City is classier. If you do this, I suggest going during the week. Weekends will be crazier with parking and crowds.

Things to do in Cape May:
Emlen Phyisick Estate Tour
Trolley tours
Cape May Lighthouse Tour
Harriet Tubman Museum (just opened last year)
Stroll Victorian streets
Rent a surrey for an hour
Go to sunset beach at Cape May Point and look for Cape May diamonds
Visit the Cape May County zoo (it's actually quite nice!)
Go to Ocean City (NJ) boardwalk one afternoon/early evening
Go to the Lobster House (go during the week!) Casual outside on the water; more formal inside
Get fudge from Fudge Kitchen
Visit the inside of Congress Hall if not staying there
Go for tea
Brunch at Mad Batter
Uncle Bills for pancakes or Ocean View for family-friendly meals.

This poster knows nothing. If you have teenaged kids they want the Wildwood boardwalk, not the Ocean City boardwalk. There’s simply no comparison. Teenagers don’t care about “class” - they care about how awesome the rides are!

Yes, I know nothing. Spent my whole life going to the Jersey Shore and I have two teenagers. There are fun rides in Ocean City. My kids love it. Wildwood is trashy.

Cape May is pretty, but this sounds awful.
