Worthwhile? Terrible waste of time and money? We don't live in the DMV anymore, so it would be more of a logistical deal for us than in the past. |
My 14 year old went and absolutely loved it! Demanding schedule, but some fun built in during meals and evenings. They focused on a different stroke each day, dry land, lectures/classroom sessions and an optional early morning training sessions. They did a lot of team building within the squads which built a sense of community right away. |
Awesome. Would you say that’s a good age? I see it's 8+, which seems young (mine is 10, 2+ years competitive). |
Yes. It was worthwhile and was time and money well-spent. DC went twice and really enjoyed it (I think at 11 and 12 .... it's been a few years now).
One thing that really stuck with DC was the session with a nutritionist/dietitian. I appreciate that they included that in the week, and DC seemed to take away some practical tips for fueling in this intense sport. |
Yes, mine has gone for multiple years. The one in June by Coach Roberts. Love the camp. Kids are well cared for and learn a lot. I don’t leave my kid many places and this is the only camp we do. We started maybe 8 or 9. Ours looks forward to it every year. The food does suck. |
I sent mine that early. They were great and some of the coaches really look after the younger ones. Really well run. But, camp is full now for this year. |
Wow, thanks. We'll look into it for next year. |
You have to sign up within a few weeks of them opening registration. |
Yes, I see that. Thanks for the reminder. No concerns with younger kids there, as far as SafeSport things go? |
NP, when do they open registration each year? And for those of you with club kids, has it ever been an issue for your club coach that your kid is going to this camp and will miss a week of club practice? My 11 yo DD would love to go to this camp but I don’t know how it would be received by her club coach. |
It changes year to year and I forget. Maybe December. No issue with club or summer swim. They are supportive. They bring in college level coaches. |
Mine has not slept over yet. This will be the first year sleeping over. But, I don’t leave my kids many places and this is one of the few we are comfortable with. |
Usually December. And if my kid's coach had a problem with this, of all things...oh, well? A week of this would be much better for them. - OP |
That’s true. Another question, do the weeks of the camp change? We showed this to my DD and she was like sign me up right now, lol. I think her club coach would be ok as long as she isn’t missing a meet. |
Usually it is the second and third week of June. They have other swim camps too but we like the coach for June. He really puts a lot of time and effort into the camp. |
