| Sometimes when I listen to songs I love, I think: he actually doesn’t have a great voice. |
| Nobody needs a great voice now, though. |

| Milli Vanilli? |
No, with social media, they'd probably be influencers or doing Tiktok videos. Most people lip sync on those. |
| Few pop stars truly transcend their time period. Fame is very dependent on the zeitgeist. |

Phil Collins.
Too ugly. Same with all of the old ugly dudes who did well then. |
All the old ugly dudes with long hair and tight leather pants. |

This. Imagine Kurt Cobain or Billy Corgan being successful now. |
I can imagine it actually |
I think they would be successful but not as well known. We have too many options now for music—much like TV—so you wouldn’t see similar numbers of fans or albums sold for most artists. My guess is that average looking female pop and country stars from the 80s/90s could not achieve success in today’s culture. Cyndi Lauper, Bonnie Raitt, Wynonna Judd. |
What would it look like? I imagine Cobain as a one hit wonder with Smells Like Teen Spirit. I'm having a harder time imagining Corgan. He was a master at writing albums, and the album is so much less relevant now. |
