When High School athletes make the varsity squad, Do they still buy letterman jackets?
For swimming, most wear the team jackets but nobody puts the letter on
Some do. Some don't. It's not as big a thing as it used to be, for sure.
Not really
I’m sure it’s different for high school, depending on how it hard it was to make the team and letter… but I am glad to have a letter jacket from college even though I hardly wore it and it’s somewhere at my parents’ house I think… it’s just a cool thing to have and know that I was a four year letterwinner. So even if your kid doesn’t care now they might value it years later. Especially if it was hard earned.
No
My girls earned their letters but didn’t buy the letter jacket.
Very dependent on the school. Some schools they are a big deal and others are not. My daughter actually went with a high school letter sweater and that was a bit of a thing for girls. It was easy to frame too. We did framed letters for each of them which they now like for their respective wall of fame (rec rooms).
Just a couple of kids at our kids school. The nice thing is it’s pretty unique if you do get one now.
No one wears these jackets now. It’s not a thing.
My sister, who lettered in several sports, is determined to bring them back now that her oldest is a freshman. I wish her luck in trend setting with this new generation.
How old are you? |
What about class rings? Do people still do those?
Agree. Some do but many don't. Mine has one but it was partially at my urging. It's a nice piece of memorabilia, esp. if you have lots of pins/patches (which my kid does). Once DC had the jacket with patches and stuff on it, she was glad she had it. She wears it to sporting things at school, mostly. And frankly, it was a bit too warm this winter For the most part to wear it much. |
Yes, the absolutely wear them. Not in the numbers "back in the day" when I was in school. But there are still plenty that do. |
