Opt out of map testing?

7th grade kid missing map testing today. I’d prefer she not miss class to retake? Is it possible to skip it? Thanks

Yes

After the MAP tests in 5th grade, which determine 6th math placement, do the MAP tests "mean" anything? Like is there anything else they are used to make decisions on? To me that's the only reason to have a kid miss class to take them.

I imagine they are used in 6th grade to determine whether kids in AIM are ready for Algebra I or whether they should move down to 7+ and repeat some content.

They aren't used at all. Math pathway is set based on teacher recommendations. Giant waste of students time and school resources.

Really??? Then why did my kid’s school do three in a year? The amount of testing that doesn’t impact students directly is alarming.

Because they are required by state law. No one said they were useful.

Yes, and arbitrary notions like allowing the 6th graders at the wealthy schools to take Algebra.

They are a lot more useful than MCAP scores. At least students and teachers get those scores right away.

Aren’t all HS credit classes have finals? Like language and Algebra 1 and above?

As far I can tell, it’s only used for GT selection. And yes, more useful than any of the MCAP and MISA tests

MAP is not required by state law. It's a district assessment. And actually a useful one.

NCLB is a federal law that requires testing - and in MD that is the MCAP.
