And a key input to teacher recs is MAP scores.

Very important in high school magnet admissions.

Just to be clear, this is teacher recs for next year's class? There are no recommendations for HS magnet admission

Yes - for example, whether a kid who is AIM is ready for algebra 1 the next year or should go into AMP7+ and repeat content. A key component of that is the MAP score.

MCPS did away with finals for all classes several years ago because too many kids were failing them.

Some people seem to care more about making education painful than whether kids learn the material.

I'm all for finals too especially if they allow unlimited retakes to ensure kids really learn the material.

I haven't heard about MAP testing this Spring at either of my kids' schools. I was beginning to wonder if they're still doing it even.

Yeah, so after a final the retake to ensure kids really learn the material is to take the class again (or a take a half-step up class) next year.

If "failing" vs "passing" is an unfriendly term, call it "progressing" vs "completing".

For Algebra at least , the plan is for MCAP to be the final, as part of the grade. (For people who care about grades or who are forced to care by lazy admission committees.)

Aren't grades due in June? The MCAP results definitely won't be out by then. Though maybe LAST year's MCAP reports will finally make their way to parents by then.

That was for last year's test. The scores don't time travel.
