Read Dr William Li’s “Eat to Beat Your Diet” - he says that not all calories are equal. Poor quality food works against your metabolism. Then extra fat slows it down.

Eat higher quality food.

Interesting comment. I had to actually use this thinking to gain weight. I though oh eat junk, gain weight. But it was actually high quality protein/etc.

The last few decades have also featured more and more processed foods.
