My peonies are 92 years old this year!

Anonymous
They were planted by my great grandma in 1931 on a farm in Indiana. When my grandma got married and bought a house in 1956, my great grandma gave her some. When my mom got married and bought a house in 1987, my grandma gave her some. When I got married and bought a house in 2015, my mom gave me some.

I'm happy to say that my grandma is 85, my mom is 64, I'm 32, my daughters are 3 and 1 and all 5 of us gardened together all day on Sunday! My grandma suggested matching peony tattoos....and wasn't joking

That's awesome, OP! Thanks for sharing.

How lovely. That put a smile on my face.

My grandma was an avid gardener and a member of a gardening club. She attended a statewide garden club summer camp for a week every year, into her 80s, and shared plants from her extensive gardens with people all over the state.

I really, really love this. My favorite kind of story: plants and familial love

This made me smile-I also have peonies from my Indiana grandma’s farm. Mine are only from 1965 though!

OMG! I thought I'd written this post! I, too, am from Indiana and dug up the peonies from our family farm when my mother sold it (it's now a housing addition). Some of them are as old as yours (I have 4 different kinds). I also have Lily of the Valley from my maternal great, great grandmother's farm, purple iris from my father's family farm and some coral bells from my paternal grandmother. I've also got the ubiquitous orange day lillies from the road ditches by our family farm (I've since learned they're invasive).

The peonies are my favorite, though, especially the ones that have a fragrance!
