Immigrants are taking up space in our local shelters and the unhoused population has grown by 12%.
Think there’s a connection? |
| for sure. Bowser said so. How is it not? |
| No. Immigrants, for better or for worse, are usually too prideful for that. They’ll take any work they can get. |
Immigrants also have lower rates of substance abuse and drug use (Which often are the trigger event for homelessness), even after controlling for every other factor. |
| Well lots of cities will have more immigranrs |
| Well most of those immigrants are families with children. Would you rather them be on the street? |
| I think the issue is that there wasn’t enough room for the homeless before and the influx of immigrants has made the problem worse and there is no solution forthcoming. Perhaps there are some people on dcum who would like to open up their homes??? |
The people on DCUM will open up their homes for the immigrants to clean. |
| Bait. |
|
It’s only temporarily, most i migrants are Hispanic and they have strong support systems in their community.
They will soon settle in (many of them to a house) and find jobs (under the table) and the domestic homeless will be there forever because most of them are addicted and mentally ill. |
| Hope TX sends you more! |
This is correct. You don't fight to come here, then do nothing with the opportunity. |
😂 Nonsense. They stay out of the shelters bc they believe then to be govt run and they avoid any involvement with the govt out of fear they will be deported. |
Yes, they work hard, stay out of trouble and keep their heads down. Just like PP said. |
Why send them to DC and make them the burden of DC residents and taxpayers? It's a federal issue, which takes action by Congress to do anything about it. Don't you know that DC residents and taxpayers have no representation and no vote in Congress? |
